1. What stays on your phone
Wrong Hand has no backend of its own. There is no account, no sign-up and no server that stores your play.
Your best score, best combo, run count, settings and the per-cue tendencies the game learns about you are held in local storage on your device. Deleting the app removes them.
The game does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, location or health data, and has no way to read any of them.
2. What Wrong Hand collects
Nothing, to us
Gemmein Limited does not operate a server for Wrong Hand and does not receive analytics, crash reports or gameplay data from the app. Where data leaves your device it goes to Apple or to Google, under their own policies, described below.
What the game measures about you, on your device
Wrong Hand times how quickly you answer each cue and records which kinds of cue catch you out. Two things are built from that, both entirely on your phone:
- The difficulty adapts to the mistakes you actually make.
- The NPC rival plays at your speed. It is built from your own measured reaction times rather than from a difficulty setting, which is why it feels matched to you.
This measurement never leaves the device. It is not sent to us, is not shared with Google or Apple, and is cleared by Settings → Reset Progress or by deleting the app.
3. Game Center
Leaderboards and 1V1 matches are provided by Apple's Game Center. Using them is optional; solo play works fully without signing in.
When you use them, Apple processes your Game Center identity under Apple's privacy policy. We receive only your public Game Center alias and the score you submit.
During a 1V1 match
Your alias is shown to your opponent, and your live score and combo are sent to their device so the head-to-head display works. No cue data, personal data or device identifier is exchanged.
Private rooms
A private match is created by both players entering the same five-character code. The code is converted into a number that Apple's matchmaking uses to pair you. The code is not stored by us, is not linked to your identity and stops existing when the match ends.
4. Advertising
Wrong Hand shows full-screen interstitial ads between runs, served by Google AdMob. A one-time Remove Ads purchase removes them permanently.
Where they are not
Ads never interrupt a run, never appear in 1V1 or private matches, and never sit between dying and tapping retry. Your first several runs are completely clean.
What Google receives
To serve and measure an ad, Google may process device and network information, a coarse location derived from your IP address, ad interactions, and — where you have permitted it — your device's advertising identifier (IDFA). Google acts as an independent controller for this. See Google's advertising privacy information.
Your two choices
In the UK and the EEA, Google's consent interface is shown before any ad is requested. On iOS the app then presents Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. Both come before any ad loads, and the order is deliberate: consent first, identifier second.
If you decline either, you will still see ads, but they will not be personalised and your advertising identifier is not used. Declining changes nothing about how the game plays. You can change the Apple answer at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, and where a consent interface applies to you, reopen it from Settings → Privacy options inside the game.
5. Purchases
In-app purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. Gemmein Limited never receives your payment-card details. The app receives only confirmation of what you bought.
Every product is a one-time non-consumable, so your entitlement is held by Apple against your Apple Account and can be restored at any time from Restore purchases on the shop card — the bag icon on the main screen, or Settings → Support. There are no subscriptions, no in-game currency and no consumables.
6. Why we process this data
Where we process any personal data at all, it is to provide a feature you have chosen to use — a leaderboard entry, a match, a purchase — or on the basis of our legitimate interests in operating and securing the game. Personalised advertising is used only where the required consent has been obtained, and only where you have also allowed tracking. Where consent is refused or unavailable, advertising is limited to non-personalised ads on the basis of our legitimate interest in funding a free game.
7. Where data goes
Gemmein Limited operates no servers for Wrong Hand, so there is no Gemmein-held database of players. Game Center data is processed by Apple globally under their transfer safeguards. Google's advertising services operate globally and may process information outside the UK or EEA under their own transfer safeguards.
8. Retention
Local gameplay data stays on your device until you reset it or delete the app.
Game Center leaderboard entries are retained by Apple under Apple's own retention rules; you can manage or remove them through your Game Center account.
Purchase entitlements are retained by Apple for as long as your Apple Account holds them, so that they can be restored.
9. Delete your data
Settings → Reset Progress clears your best score, best combo, run counts and the tendencies the game has learned about you. Purchases are deliberately not affected: an entitlement you paid for is not part of your personal data, and erasing your record should not destroy something you bought.
Deleting the app removes all remaining local data.
Leaderboard entries are held by Apple. Remove them through Game Center in iOS Settings, or by contacting Apple.
You can also email privacy@gemmein.com. Because the game holds no account, we may have nothing to look up — which is the intended design, not an obstruction.
10. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability over personal data we hold. In practice Wrong Hand gives us almost nothing to hold. Requests: privacy@gemmein.com.
You may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. Our ICO registration is ZC241461.
11. Children
Wrong Hand is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. The game insults the player's performance throughout and uses stylised skull imagery. It is rated 12+ on the App Store, and the ads it requests are capped at the equivalent content rating.
